William Hill World Matchplay 2026 preview
The second round of World Matchplay continues this evening, with the likes of Gian van Veen, Cameron Menzies and James Wade all in action.
World Matchplay Darts (Tonight 7pm)
Tonight’s action at the Winter Gardens delivers some mouth-watering fixtures which feature four highly anticipated matches.
Cameron Menzies arrives this evening, having delivered the biggest shock of the tournament so far. He beat World No.2 Luke Humphries 10-7 in the opening round. He now comes up against Ross Smith, who beat Kevin Doets 10-6 in his first match. Menzies will be full of adrenaline and momentum as he tries to pull off another upset, but Smith should be able to come out on top with his heavy 180-scoring and make it to the quarter-finals.
World No.3 Gian van Veen takes on Wessel Nijman in an all-Dutch clash between two of the sport’s most exciting rising stars. Despite van Veen’s form and quality, this match is hard to call, with many tipping Nijman to be the dark horse of the competition. It should be a fast-paced, high-scoring encounter between the two Dutchmen.
Gerwyn Price returns following his tense first-round battle against Martin Schindler that ended 11-9. He will be facing Rob Cross, who sent a big statement to the rest of his competition by thrashing Danny Noppert 10-3. Cross is in good form, but Price knows how to turn up when it gets tough, making this a very exciting heavyweight battle.
James Wade is also in action, taking on Ryan Searle. Wade hasn’t won the World Matchplay since 2007, but he’s in terrific form, currently sitting sixth in the World Rankings. Searle won 10-6 in the first round against William O’Connor to make it four wins in his last five matches, so he won’t be an easy opponent for Wade.
