The World Cup of Darts takes centre stage from Thursday through until Saturday at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt and England are 1/2 to make a successful title defence. Will the dream duo of Luke Humphries and Luke Littler justify their short odds, or could we be set for an upset?

World Cup of Darts tips & predictions
It was Luke Humphries and Michael Smith who powered England to glory with a 10-6 win over Austria in last season’s final and, with teenage phenomenon Luke Littler now replacing Bully Boy to partner world number one Humphries, many expect them to blow the opposition away.
The top seeds, alongside Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland, have automatically progressed to the knockout stages, so four wins is all it takes for those nations to get their hands on the trophy. The other 36 countries have to compete in a three-team group-phase to reach the last 16, with the winners progressing, and it is a competition that tends to favour the high-ranked nations.
Strong Scottish duo should not be underestimated
Scotland have twice won the World Cup of Darts, having done so in 2019 and 2021, and there is every possibility that they could go one better than when finishing runners-up to Wales two seasons ago.
England, armed with the services of Humphries and Littler, are evidently the team to beat and it is virtually impossible to see how they won’t go on to reach the final.
However, Scotland have the luxury of avoiding the two Lukes until a potential title decider as they are housed in the bottom half of the draw and they could represent each-way value.
Gary Anderson and Peter Wright are two former world champions and they help form a super strong Scottish pairing, with their big-stage experience and cohesiveness set to be real assets.
Scotland may have to face Wales, who are represented by Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton, in the final four but they are double the price of that pair and there should be little to split them.
Anderson has been a model of consistency this season and appears to have rediscovered his A-game, while after a lean spell Wright is starting to show some signs of a resurgence.

Belgium could be the surprise package
If there is to be an upset then it could be Belgium who deliver it as they inherit a world-class pairing in Mike De Decker and Dimitri Van den Bergh.
De Decker claimed his maiden major title at the World Grand Prix last year, while Van den Bergh landed last season’s UK Open and is a big-stage performer.
If these two click and perform to a level in which they can then they are serious contenders and, while coming though the group-stage is not ideal, Latvia and Philippines are unlikely to pose too many problems for them.

Swedes looking to take inspiration from last year
The most competitive group according to the betting is Group G, where seeds Sweden are narrowly preferred ahead of France, with Lithuania not unconsidered in the three-way heat.
This Swedish pairing of Jeffrey de Graaf and Oskar Lukasiak topped Group K last year at Gibraltar and Spain’s expense and they went on to make the quarter-finals, where they pushed Scotland hard in a 8-7 defeat.
De Graaf is the class player in this section and he can inspire Sweden to top honours.
