World Matchplay Darts Betting Tips & Predictions
The World Matchplay Darts field will be reduced to eight runners come the end of play on Wednesday evening at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
The PDC’s premier summer-time major event witnessed some big-name casualties in round one, including defending champion Luke Humphries.
- Gerwyn Price to beat Chris Dobey & Hit Most 180s @ 3/1 with Betano
- Luke Littler -4.5 legs vs Jermaine Wattimena @ 8/11 with Sky Bet
- Michael van Gerwen to beat Josh Rock @ 11/8 with bet365
Price is right for Gezzy to march on
Gerwyn Price edged Daryl Gurney in round one despite an often tetchy atmosphere on the stage.
Price, the 2021 world champion, appeared to take issue with Gurney mocking his passionate victory celebration, aggressively shaking his hand before the players exchanged words.
Price is playing as well as he has done for some time and having lost weight as part of a fitness regime he joked on Instagram after defeating Gurney: “Have to be careful these days, I’m down to light-cruiserweight.”
The world number nine averaged just over a ton and hit six 180s against recent World Cup winner Gurney, and he was incredibly good on his checkouts at 66 per cent.
He has recently won the Poland Masters and was a European Tour winner last week, where he beat Dobey 7-3.
The Englishman beat Ricardo Pietreczko 10-5 in his opener despite averaging less than 91 and he will come unstuck if repeating those numbers here.

Littler unlikely to be troubled
Luke Littler came through a potentially tough opener against Ryan Searle with a stunning 108.92 three-dart average and having lost just two legs.
He won the 180-count 5-3, landed 17 scores of 140+ and a top checkout of 126 was contributory to a more than efficient checkout rate of 52 per cent.
Searle didn’t throw badly, averaging 98.63, but he simply hadn’t got the answers to Littler’s scoring.
Wattimena edged Peter Wright 10-8 in his opening assignment despite the lower three-dart average of the pair, at 91.81 and a checkout success rate of 34.48 per cent.
Littler has won all four previous meetings, including a 16-2 demolition at the Grand Slam in November and a 10-4 win at the UK Open in March.
He looks to have too much firepower based on their first-round performances.

MVG being underestimated
Michael van Gerwen has endured some turmoil in his personal life of late but he did well to dismiss compatriot Raymond van Barneveld in round one.
When the Dutch aces collide it isn’t always easy for MVG as he’s expected to win. With that victory banked, the player who won the World Matchplay in 2015, 2016 and 2022 could now spark into the tournament.
He’ll have to, as Northern Ireland’s Josh Rock averaged 104 against Ross Smith in his opener.
Rock has lost seven of nine meetings with Van Gerwen and his opener was a first win inside the Winter Gardens. He may not replicate that red-hot performance and MVG could represent some decent value.
