Tennis fans will get another chance to potentially witness history being made when Mirra Andreeva attempts to win her third WTA 1000 event in a row at the tender age of 17 this week.
The Russian, who is among the favourites to claim the 2025 Miami Open title, would become only the fourth female player in the last 20 years to do the ‘Sunshine double’ by backing up her impressive Indian Wells success.

Teen sensation is becoming a generational talent
Andreeva is the number 11 seed in the women’s singles but her performance at Indian Wells has boosted her world ranking to a career-high of No.6.
She has received a favourable draw in the sense that the highest-ranked player in her quarter, Jessica Pegula, has been inconsistent on hard courts and has never previously faced her.
The two greatest obstacles to the teenager going all the way again are likely to be Iga Swiatek, who she could meet in the semi-finals, and her Indian Wells final opponent Aryna Sabalenka.
But Andreeva beat them both in California with a mixture of guts and guile.
She now has a 2-1 lead in matches against Swiatek and her surprise victory over Sabalenka could be the blueprint for another should they meet again in Florida.

Versatile Paolini could impress
Jasmine Paolini’s all-court prowess makes her a dangerous opponent for any of the top stars at virtually any tournament.
The diminutive Italian produced some superb tennis last summer to reach the Wimbledon final on grass and then take Women’s Olympic singles gold at Roland Garros, where she had lost in the final of the French Open only two months before.
Her 2025 campaign has yet to rediscover those heights, but Paolini can make some major inroads in Miami thanks to her aggressive flat-hitting style and agility around the court.
The faster surface at Miami Gardens can aid Paolini’s bid to win her second WTA 1000 event after her success in Dubai last year.

Tauson will be tough to break behind smart serve
Clara Tauson, the hard-hitting Danish star, could emerge as a dark horse for the Miami Open. Her recent performances, including a final appearance at the Dubai WTA 1000 event, underline the fast progress she has made in the last 12 months.
Tauson was a qualifier at this event last year, but put up a brave fight against two-time finalist Elena Rybakina before bowing out 3-6, 7-5, 4-6 to her in the second round.
Now seeded 20th, the 22-year-old enters the tournament with improved standing and a favourable draw, avoiding top seeds like Aryna Sabalenka, Rybakina, and Coco Gauff in her half.
She may ultimately fall to Andreeva, her conqueror in the last two big events, but her game is more suited to the faster conditions at Miami than in either Dubai or Indian Wells.
With her powerful serve, leading the tour with 145 aces this season, and improved consistency, Tauson is well-positioned to make a deep run in Miami and potentially challenge for the title.
