Hojgaard to shoot up FedEx Cup rankings

Danish ace Nicolai Hojgaard has been showing strong form in recent weeks and he will be making his first appearance since finishing tied-14th at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush – his best Major result.

That effort in Northern Ireland came on the back of a T4 at the Scottish Open and the 24-year-old has been striking the ball nicely, with his approach play and putting both in good stead.

Sitting 71st in the FedEx Cup rankings, Hojgaard knows he needs a strong performance to reach the play-offs and there is every chance he could end up lifting the trophy at a course he was tied-14th at on debut in 2023.

Hojgaard, who is also hoping to catch the eye of European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, is 13th in strokes gained approach and sixth in greens in regulation on the US circuit this season.

Kohles to end PGA wait

Ben Kohles will have to settle for a place in the FedEx Cup Fall this year but he can take confidence into that stretch of tournaments by breaking his PGA Tour duck at the Wyndham Championship.

With Sedgefield demanding accuracy with the driver and razor-sharp approach play, the 35-year-old American should thrive at this course given he ranks third for both driving accuracy and greens in regulation this season.

Kohles has shown positive signs over the last few weeks, notably finishing tied-eighth at the ISCO Championship and T20 at last week’s 3M Open, and his game looks to be in good enough shape to contend in North Carolina.

Svensson to surge into early contention

It hasn’t been the season Adam Svensson was hoping for but there were some positives to take from last week’s showing at the 3M Open, where he recorded a tied-14th finish for his best result of the year.

The 31-year-old Canadian made a blistering start to that tournament, carding an 11-under-par round of 60 to take an early lead, while he rounded off the event with a solid 65 on Sunday.

Svensson was tied-second on day one at the 2023 Wyndham Championship and he looks capable of sitting top of the pile after the opening 18 holes this year.
