Kieran McKenna is the odds-on favourite to take over as Celtic’s new manager, after Brendan Rodgers left the Scottish club on Monday night. Ange Postecoglu had led the race when betting sites first priced up the market, but McKenna’s price shortened throughout the course of Tuesday.

Kieran McKenna is the current favourite to move to Celtic, following a dramatic Monday night which saw Dermot Desmond release a statement criticising Brendan Rodgers, stating that the manager had created a toxic atmosphere.
McKenna was initially priced up as a 20/1 outsider to move north to Scotland, but concerted money throughout Tuesday has seen him cut to no bigger than 8/11, with Betfred making him as short as 1/2 to complete the switch.

Who are the favourites to be the next Celtic manager?
It’s Kieran McKenna who has proven the most popular option in the early stages of betting for Celtic’s new manager. McKenna is generally accepted to have worked wonders in his time as Ipswich, taking them from League One to the Premier League, and not disgracing themselves despite ultimately suffering relegation. McKenna has been linked with a number of high-profile English Premier League jobs, and he may feel the time is right to move on, with Ipswich currently mid-table in the ultra-competitive Championship.
Robbie Keane has also seen his odds shorten overnight, from 16/1 to 5/1, leaving him as the new second favourite. Keane had a brief stint at the club in 2010, netting 16 goals in 19 matches. However, his appointment would be hugely controversial with at least some of the Celtic fanbase, given the time he spent at Maccabi Tel Aviv during the conflict in the Gaza Strip and Israel.
Postecoglou is the third favourite, with his odds drifting from odds-on to 8/1. In his former stint as Celtic manager, Postecoglou was in charge for two years, and managed 113 matches. He has a great record for The Bhoys, winning 83 games, and losing just 18. During his time in Glasgow, Postecoglou won the Scottish Premiership twice and also won three Scottish Cups. It was a highly successful period and they dominated Scottish football whilst he was in the dugout, so it’s no shock to see him in contention.
Current interim manager Martin O’Neill is also listed in the Celtic manager betting odds, but it not thought to be a serious contender to take over on a permanent basis. O’Neill originally took over as Celtic’s manager back in 2000 and managed the club for five years. He won seven trophies, including three league titles, but the 73 year old hasn’t managed a club since 2019, so it would be a risky appointment.
Kjetil Knutsen and Shaun Maloney are also in the running, but for now it looks like the job could be McKenna’s sooner rather than later.
