Former Everton manager Sean Dyche remains favourite to take over at Ibrox after Max Aarons’ injury time winner at Livingston did little to reduce the pressure that has built on Russell Martin.
Rangers run without a league victory had looked set to stretch into October, after Mo Sylla’s equaliser had brought Livingston level, but Aarons’ goal in the fourth minute of injury time ultimately gave Rangers a 2-1 victory. Despite the momentary joy, Rangers’ fans made it clear that they still wanted a change of management, with anti-Martin chants not long after the initial celebrations had died down.

If Martin were to leave, it’s likely that Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell would remain in his role and could be charged with overseeing the search for a successor. Considering how Thelwell and Dyche navigated financial challenges and points deductions during their time at Goodison Park, it’s no surprise that Dyche is currently the favourite on new betting sites like Betano and talkSPORT BET to become Rangers’ next manager.

Who are the favourites to be next Rangers manager?
While Sean Dyche heads the next Rangers manager odds, former boss Steven Gerrard is also prominent in the latest betting. He performed well in his previous stint at Ibrox, leading the team to the Scottish Premiership title in 2020/21, and would be a cheap appointment too, having been without a job since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January. Gerrard’s odds have been trimmed slightly since last week, shortening from 10/3 to 3/1 to suggest there has been some money coming for the Liverpool legend to return to Glasgow.
After Dyche and Gerrard in the Rangers manager betting comes Danny Rohl. The 36-year-old German impressed at Sheffield Wednesday under trying circumstances and would be seen as a more progressive appointment than the likes of Sean Dyche. Former Bournemouth and Wolves manager Gary O’Neil is next in the betting.
For those yearning for an appointment with historical Rangers links, Barry Ferguson is seen as the most likely candidate. Ferguson won five league titles as a Rangers player and also stepped in as interim manager following the departure of Philippe Clement, although his managerial experience at the top level is far more limited than the other contenders.

Why is Russell Martin under pressure?
Despite only being appointed as Rangers’ manager in June, it is little surprise to see Russell Martin already under a huge amount of pressure. They may have advanced to the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, but results have been dire both domestically and in Europe so far.
Although Rangers navigated their way past Panathinaikos and Viktoria Plzen, an ignominious exit at the hands of Club Brugge followed, 9-1 on aggregate. League results have been no better, with their late win at Livingston leaving them down in 8th place, nine points behind league leaders Hearts, and with a return to the Champions League next season already appearing highly unlikely.
