Two of Europe’s top sides meet in a Champions League semi-final first leg as PSG host Bayern Munich at 8pm tonight. Our betting expert has analysed the key stats and tactical matchups; read on for the analysis behind his selections.
Stalemate on the cards in Paris
Bayern Munich will travel to the French capital with confidence, having already secured a 2-1 victory at the Parc des Princes during the league phase of this season’s competition. Vincent Kompany’s side will feel they are capable of achieving another positive result.
In that November encounter, Bayern established a 2-0 lead before halftime. Despite playing the entire second half with ten men following a red card, they successfully protected their lead and claimed all three points.
However, PSG’s recent home performances in the knockout stages highlight their quality. A 5-2 win against Chelsea and a 2-0 victory over Liverpool demonstrate their ability to control games on their own turf before finishing the job away from home.
There is little to separate these two squads in terms of quality and European experience, making the match winner market difficult to call. With Bayern having already secured the Bundesliga title, they have the luxury to rotate and may be content to keep the tie tight ahead of the second leg, making the draw an appealing option.

Second-Half action expected from elite attacks
This fixture brings together the two most potent attacking units in this season’s Champions League. It is reasonable to expect both teams to find their rhythm as the game progresses, making a wager on both scoring after the interval a logical choice.
PSG have a strong record of scoring in the latter stages of matches at home. The Parisians have found the net in the second half in six of their seven Champions League games at the Parc des Princes this season, averaging 1.86 second-half goals per game.
Furthermore, PSG have conceded a second-half goal in two of their three home knockout ties. The only exception was against a Liverpool side that showed little attacking intent, a passive approach that Bayern are unlikely to replicate.
Bayern have scored a second-half goal in 10 of their 12 Champions League matches this term. In the knockout phase, their average rises to 2.25 second-half goals per game, and both teams have scored after the break in three of those four fixtures. The German side have also conceded a second-half goal in their last five away games in this competition.

Goal Line looks generous for prolific forwards
With two front-footed squads packed with attacking talent competing for a place in the Champions League final, this tie has the potential to be an open and high-scoring affair. The goal line market offers value considering the offensive capabilities of both teams.
Notably, all six of Bayern’s away matches in the competition this season have seen over 2.5 goals. Three of those six fixtures produced over 3.5 goals, a return that would secure a full win for this particular selection.
PSG’s home matches have also been rich in goals, with five of their seven games seeing over 2.5 goals and four of those surpassing the 3.5 goal mark. Considering Bayern registered 100 Bundesliga goals after just 28 games, another goal-laden encounter seems plausible.
