Austria, meanwhile, have progressed to the knockouts for the first time since 1978 but have shown defensive vulnerabilities. Lamine Yamal’s minutes were carefully managed by Luis de la Fuente during the group stage, with the teenager yet to complete a full 90 minutes. Now that the must-win matches have arrived, he is expected to command a much larger role on the right wing for Spain.
